Helsinki Regional Transport Authority (hereinafter referred to as ‘HSL’) and Pääkaupunkiseudun Junakalusto Oy (hereinafter referred to as ‘Junakalusto Oy’) are preparing a procurement of new commuter trains for the public transport in Helsinki region. Annex 1 HSL — Procurement of new urban commuter train fleet (EMU), maintenance services and workshop facility describes the background and operating environment of the procurement in more detail. According to the preliminary estimation, the number of train units needed in the first phase of the procurement is approximately 30-40 train units and there is additionally an option of approximately 20-30 train units for the needs of the next phase. The actual procurement process will commence later in accordance with the decision on the policy to be taken by the board of HSL in the issue at the end of 2020. HSL and Junakalusto Oy are now gathering information about the trains available on the market and for this purpose Junakalusto Oy publishes the prior information notice in which it is described what kind of trains are planned to be purchased. HSL and Junakalusto Oy are also considering including a maintenance agreement and depot in the procurement of the trains.
