Brief
Københavns Universitet has entered into an agreement with Thermo Electron A/S for the delivery of an Element Analyzer Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer, 10 kV 253 Plus IRMS architecture, to be delivered in Byen København. The spectrometer features a 10 kV acceleration voltage electron-impact ionization source for high-precision isotope ratio measurements, with optimized sensitivity and linearity operating modes (600 molecules/ion in Sensitivity Mode and 900 molecules/ion with 0.02 ‰/nA linearity in Linearity Mode). It includes a monoblock source architecture with internal radiant heating, externally adjustable VISC, and a mechanically self-aligning ion source with a plug-in filament module to minimize maintenance and ensure correct positioning. The platform incorporates intellectual property related to high-performance isotope-ratio detection and dynamic-range enhancement, as detailed in patents GB2526857B, US9431976B2, CN105305976B, US10312071B2, and GB2541385B.

From the notice
253 Plus employs a 10 kV acceleration voltage electron-impact ionization source which provides exceptional ion transmission and sensitivity while supporting the stringent linearity required for high-precision isotope ratio measurements. 253 Plus provides optimized sensitivity and linearity operating modes, including: Sensitivity Mode: 600 molecules/ion Linearity Mode: 900 molecules/ion, with linearity of 0.02 ‰/nA This is central to applications requiring the highest level of isotope-ratio performance. The 253 Plus ion-source housing is machined from a single piece of metal not welded components. This minimizes surfaces capable of retaining adsorbed water. Materials that can contribute to memory effects through chemisorption are similarly minimized and replaced by inert materials. This design is particularly important in high-precision IRMS because residual water can contribute to memory and non-linearity. Internal radiant heating and monoblock source architecture provides a highly controlled source environment for demanding stable-isotope measurements. The 253 Plus incorporates VISC, which can be adjusted externally without opening the vacuum system. The 253 Plus ion source is mechanically self-aligning and can only be installed in the correct orientation. The filament is designed as a plug-in module with simplified installation and minimal possibility of incorrect positioning. This reduce maintenance time and minimize the possibility of changes in source alignment following routine maintenance. The 253 Plus platform is differentiated by intellectual property relating to high-performance isotope-ratio detection and dynamic-range enhancement.
