Havenbedrijf Rotterdam N.V. is planning the procurement of emission reduction maintenance dredging operations, focusing on reducing CO2 eq., NOx, and PM10 emissions. The project aims to stimulate the development and deployment of medium-sized trailing suction hopper dredgers that can operate continuously on Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBOs) or Renewable Electricity (RE) within a multi-year contract.

To make dredging operations more sustainable, HbR and RWS intend to jointly tender Lot 3 as a frontrunner project. The ambitions for this lot focus on emission reduction in dredging operations, with CO2 eq., NOx, and PM10 (greenhouse gases, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter, respectively) serving as key areas of focus, in accordance with the SEB covenant. At present, no medium-sized trailing suction hopper dredger is available that can operate continuously on Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBOs) or Renewable Electricity (RE). The frontrunner project aims to stimulate the development of such equipment and deploy it within a multi-year contract, with a significant application of RFNBO/RE.
