UWC West is the collaboration of four national weather services in Denmark (DMI), Iceland (IMO), Ireland (Met Éireann) and Netherlands (KNMI), who will join their forces to cooperate on the improvement of their short range weather forecast. The primary goal of the collaboration is to provide efficiently the best short-range weather forecasts for the geographical area of interest, enhancing safety and ensuring life and property for the citizens in all of the four countries. Central to this quest is a jointly operated UWC West supercomputer which will be put out for tender autumn 2020 by the national weather services in Denmark (DMI).

Kittilän kunnan toimintojen auditointi- ja kustannustehokkuusselvitys

Kittilän kunta pyytää tarjouksia koululautakunnan, hyvinvointivointilautakunnan, teknisen lautakunnan sekä kunnanhallituksen alaisten toimintojen laajasta toiminnallisesta auditoinnista. Auditoinnin tavoitteena on tarkastella näiden toimialojen kulurakennetta ja toimintaprosesseja kriittisesti, kuitenkin tavoitteena säilyttää nykyinen palvelutaso ja laatu. Toimeksiannon tavoitteena on tuottaa Kittilän kunnalle riippumaton ja asiantuntijapohjainen arvio kunnan palvelutuotannon nykytilasta, tehokkuudesta ja kustannusrakenteesta sekä tunnistaa konkreettisia kehittämistoimenpiteitä palveluiden järjestämiseksi taloudellisesti kestävämmällä tavalla. Auditoinnin tulee tuottaa suosituksia, joilla voidaan parantaa toiminnan tehokkuutta, resurssien kohdentamista ja kustannusvaikuttavuutta siten, että palveluiden laatu, vaikuttavuus, saavutettavuus ja kuntalaisten yhdenvertainen palvelujen saatavuus turvataan. Työhön haetaan asiantuntijaa, jolla on erinomaista osaamista ja kokemusta kuntien auditointiprosessien menestyksekkäästä suorittamisesta sekä ymmärrystä Lapin kuntien erityisolosuhteista ja kuntien toimintoja koskevasta lainsäädännöstä. Tarkempi kuvaus hankinnasta on annettu tarjouspyynnön liitteessä.

      A magnetically shielded room

A magnetically shielded room (passive / DC shielding) for conducting paleomagnetic and rock-magnetic experiments in an ultra-low magnetic field environment will be installed within the Solid Earth Geophysics (SEG-BK102) Laboratory, Department of Geosciences and Geography, University of Helsinki, located in the Physicum building. The shielded room will contain a horizontal 2G cryogenic magnetometer (SRM) with its associated electronics, one large-volume thermal demagnetizer (oven), a Molspin magnetometer, a non-magnetic working desk, and necessary shelving for SRM electronics and storage. The shielded space therefore requires a relatively large internal area (3.8 x 3.0 m = 11.4 m²) with adequate ventilation. The effective laboratory space available is approximately 23.7 m² (5.4 × 4.4 m). The laboratory has a structural floor-to-ceiling height of approximately 3.75 m. However, overhead ducting limits the maximum permissible installation height of the shielded room to approximately 3.0 m. Therefore, the walls, floor, and ceiling of the shielded room must be designed to be as thin as technically feasible while still achieving the required shielding performance. Because several instruments will be installed inside the room, the magnetometers cannot be positioned at the geometric center of the shielded volume, and thus the shielding performance must remain effective throughout the usable interior space, including near the perimeter, with a low spatial magnetic field gradient across the working area.
