Automated metabolic phenotyping system (indirect calorimetry) for mice

Universiteit Gent needs an automated metabolic phenotyping system for mice, based on open-circuit indirect calorimetry, for a duration of 90 days. The system should allow for simultaneous measurement of at least 12 individually housed animals, include a climate-controlled environmental chamber (4 °C to 35 °C, preferably with humidity control), integrated food and water intake and locomotor activity monitoring, hydrogen (H₂) and methane (CH₄) gas sensing, control and analysis software, training, warranty, consumables, and maintenance. The system will be installed at the VIB-UGent Center for Inflammation Research in Gent, Belgium, and will be used for longitudinal metabolic phenotyping of mouse models, including energy expenditure, substrate utilisation, feeding and drinking behaviour, and spontaneous activity, combined with non-invasive, continuous monitoring of gut-microbial fermentation under controlled conditions. Award criteria are Total Cost of Ownership over 7 years (40%), Technical Value (45%), and Service, support, warranty and training (15%). Qualification requirements include a turnover of at least €300,000 for the last three financial years, and at least 3 references from the past 3 years for similar indirect calorimetry/metabolic phenotyping systems for rodents with at least 8 measurement cages delivered and installed at a university, research institute, or pharmaceutical/biotech company.
